Considered as "a capital among italian restaurants", Senigallia is the town of great cuisine.
From pizzeria to bistrot, from family run restaurants on the beach to the more formal hotel tables, from the cheerful wine bars to the traditional “osteria”, you are spoilt for choice. Here the gourmet will find superb delicacies, for families there are tasty inexpensive menus, the fish is fresh and inviting, and for those who do not like fish, there is always the good country fare to taste.
Among the typical products of fish are the grilled fish e the Adriatic mixed fry up, two traditional seafood dishes always available on the Senigallia menu, and the brodetto senigalliese, cooked with 13 different types of fish. But only a few restaurants have this dish on the menu, and only if ordered in advance. Try also the tasty country cuisine. Amongt the traditional farmhouse dishes, discover a real Summer surprise, roast goose , and for Christmas dinner salsiccia matta (mad sausage) only available by ordering in advance from selected butchers in the town centre. Another typical local delicacy is called pizza con il formaggio, a special kind of bread with cheese, which, in the past, was prepared around Easter time. The traditional dessert is a cake called ciambellone. At Christmas this is accompanied by vino di visciole, a sweet drink made of wild cherries marinated in sugar and red wine.
Among white wines there's the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and the Bianchello del Metauro, among the red wines, the Lacrima di Morro d'Alba and the Rosso Conero.
Events: Pane Nostrum, the most important Italian festival for the use of bread. The event is held annually the third weekend of September.
